• Prerequisites: A certain amount of mathematical maturity

The plan is to cover chapters 1, 3, 4 and 5.

• Homework: Homework problems are to be assigned once a week. They are due the following week in class. No late homework will be accepted.
• Attendance: of lectures/discussions is expected.

• Exams: There two midterms and a final. There may be occasional quizzes. All exams will be closed book.

  The midterms will take place on March 2 and April 20 (the dates are not likely to change).

  The final, according to the non-combined final examination schedule is to take place on 7-10 pm, Tuesday, May 12

  Requests for a make-up exam require a serious documentation and are rarely granted.

• Grade: The formula for the course grade is roughly as follows:
• final exam = 35 %
• 2 midterms at 20 % each = 40%
• homework, quizzes = 25%
There is no plan for a curve.   However, if you do significantly better on the final than your course average grade, I will take that into account.
