• Class meets:
• Section D1 MWF  11 am, 243 Altgeld Hall
• Prerequisites: A certain amount of mathematical maturity

The plan is to cover chapters 1-16.

• Homework: Homework problems are to be assigned once a week. They are due the following week in class, usually on Wednesdays. No late homework will be accepted.
• Quizzes: will usually be on Fridays. The first quiz will take place on January 27.

• Attendance: of lectures/discussions is expected.

• Exams: There two midterms and a final. All exams will be closed book.

  The midterms will take place on February 22 and April 12 (the dates are not likely to change).

  The final, according to the non-combined final examination schedule is to take place on 8:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 11

  Requests for a make-up quizzes or exams require a serious documentation and are (almost) never granted. Please plan accordingly. I will drop the lowest homework and quiz scores.

• Grade: The formula for the course grade is roughly as follows:
• final exam = 35 %
• 2 midterms at 20 % each = 40%
• homework, quizzes = 25%
There is no plan for a curve.   However, if you do significantly better on the final than your course average grade, I will take that into account.
