Texts: Vector calculus (third edition)
by Susan Jane Colley
We will study 1.6 (n-dimensinal geometry, linear maps,
determinants), 2.1-2.6 (differentiation of functions of several
variables) , 3.3-3.4 (vector fields; gradient, curl and divergence
operators), 4.1-4.3 (maxima and minima, Lagrange multipliers), 5.1-5.4
(double and triple integrals) [lightly], 5.5 (change of variables),
6.1-6.3 (line integrals), 7.1-7.4 (surface integrals; theorems of
Stokes and Gauss), 8.1-8.3 (differential forms, manifolds, generalized
Stokes's theorem).
-
Homework: Homework problems are to be assigned
once a week. They are due on Monday of the following week. No
late homework will be accepted.
-
Exams: There will be quizzes, a midterm and a
final. You have to pass the final to pass the course. All exams will be closed book.

-
Grade: The formula for the course grade is roughly
as follows:
-
final exam = 40%
-
1 midterm = 30%
-
homework, quizzes, class participation etc = 30%
There will be NO CURVE
