• Prerequisites: Officially an honors section of MATH 347 or an honors section of MATH 416, and consent of the department. In practice, ability to understand and write proofs and a desire to work hard.

Text book:

• Kenneth A. Ross, Elementary Analysis. Theory of Calculus (Second Edition), Springer, 2013.

We will study material from Chapters 1 - 7. I may supplement the text with other material if necessary.

• Homework: Homework problems are to be assigned once a week. They are due the following week in class. No late homework will be accepted.
• Attendance: of lectures/discussions is expected.

• Exams: There will be quizzes, two midterms and a final. All exams will be closed book.

  The midterms will take place on October 3 and November 17 (the dates are not likely to change).

  The final, according to the non-combined final examination schedule is to take place on 8:00–11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 17

  Requests for a make-up exam require a serious documentation and are rarely granted.

• Grade: The formula for the course grade is roughly as follows:
  • final exam = 35 %
  • 2 midterms at 20 % each = 40%
  • homework, quizzes = 25%
• There is no plan for a curve.   However, if you do significantly better on the final than your course average grade, I will take that into account.
